Head of Fresh Supply Chain and Logistics

Purpose

To develop and manage a fully integrated Fresh supply chain from supplier to shelf to ensure we have the best availability on shelf, at the lowest cost and minimum waste. The role will manage the Fresh central supply chain replenishment team and work closely with the other supply chain teams. The role reports to the Food Director.


Key Responsibilities:

Suppliers Management

  • Provide daily/weekly feedback to suppliers of their supply chain performance and the impact on our onshelf availability.
  • Introduce a comprehensive supplier code of practice for delivering into central distribution with an appropriate penalty structure for failure to meet agreed KPI’s. e.g inbound service, presentation levels , on shelf sales strategy, stockholding by supplier.
  • Assist preparing robust 3PL contracts to ensure Dunnes Stores KPI’s and SLA agreements are strong enough negotiations and protect Dunnes Stores
  • Take direct action through your team to correct suppliers failures with the support of the buying team.
  • Ensure buying teams have accurate information on supplier re performance for all negotiations.

 

People Management and leadership:

  • Responsibility for management of the Fresh central supply chain replenishment team.
  • Develop the most cost effective supply chain structure to manage on shelf availability of stores, with central allocation of stock to stores
  • Recruit the correct blend of people (internal and external) with a variety of experience to create a highly effective Fresh supply chain team.
  • Identify the organisational requirements (e.g. IT, operations, buying, planograms, finance, data analyst etc needed to support the fresh supply chain function
  • Coach and train new and existing staff. Provide training for the team on the fully central controlled replenishment system
  • Put in place a KPI reports and a performance appraisal system for the team to ensure that all people are working to common productivity targets, eliminate inefficient tasks/ costs.
  • Ensure team own their KPI’s and work proactively and take initiative to achieve the results.
  • Promote a right first time demanding approach throughout the supply chain team.
  • Build effective relationships with all your key internal stakeholders.

Management of supply chain KPI’s

  • Manage all relevant supply chain KPI’s including inbound and outbound supplier service levels, onshelf availability, waste management, range compliance. Ensure they are shared with the team on a timely basis.
  • Ensure supply chain team has standardized processes and order disciplines to ensure stockholding targets at store/ depot are met.
  • Provide a simple suite of store operation  KPI repeats to ensure supply chain process are being completed and pinpointing availability issues
  • Prepare financial business cases to support any investment in central system and distribution.

 

Ordering system Design

  • Fully Evaluate 3rd party fresh ordering systems that require limited manual intervention and uses system intelligence to refine the orders by product by store, and are the most cost efficient
  • Recommend, design and specify the optimal system manage the supply chain for Dunnes Stores that caters for fresh food, chilled food, non foods and textiles.
  • Put together an implementation team to manage the transition.
  • Develop a cross functional team to specify and acquire the exact system and business team requirement to deliver and implement the supply supply chain solution.
  • Develop a very clear change management timetable to help the organisation understand the scope and resource requirements to deliver a smooth implementation of the new ordering system.
  • Consider interim stock discipline processes that will be required for stores and Head Office that can be implemented in advance that will aid the final implementation and give a short term business benefits.
  • Accurately assess the transition from the current “AS IS” ordering process in Dunnes Stores and desired optimum “To Be” process, and the migration steps in between.
  • Be a key member of the team designing and testing system capabilities.
  • Take learnings from non competitor’s sites to create a best in class system

Key competencies

  • It is essential to have retail experience and in particular proven fresh supply chain leadership experience for more than 5 years.
  • Strong people management skills and proven ability to manage a large team with targets and KPIs
  • Exceptional financial and analytical skills, with a passion for using numbers to understand and solve challenges
  • A positive relationship builder with strong collaboration skills who is comfortable working in a matrix organization. 
  • Strong organization and planning skills, with ability to set deadlines but also remaining flexible to deal with changes.
  • Naturally has attention to detail and a mentality of right first time
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate a team but also take decisions in a complex fast paced retail environment.
