Senior AIX Systems and Storage Administrator

We are looking for a senior NIX (Aix and Linux) and IBM Storage system administrator with knowledge in Tomcat, Apache, IBM MQ, who is also strong on shell scripting (BASH). A benefit would also be having an understanding of Oracle databases and applications, and the performance management on Aix systems.

 

The core operating system is Aix. As an AIX system administrator, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of our AIX systems. In this role, you will troubleshoot server errors, install new system hardware, respond to IT user issues, and monitor the performance of systems.

To ensure success as an AIX system administrator, you should have in-depth knowledge of AIX operating systems, excellent troubleshooting skills, and high-level knowledge of IBM Power and storage systems. A skilled AIX system administrator will ensure the smooth running of systems and quickly respond to breakdowns and software issues.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Installing and upgrading AIX system software
  • Creating AIX file systems.
  • Setting up and maintaining AIX user accounts and access management systems.
  • Implementing network and computer system policies.
  • Detecting and troubleshooting software and hardware issues.
  • Responding to user requests and software errors.
  • Monitoring the performance of the system and server.
  • Creating backup and recovery policies.
  • Setting up and monitoring security policies.
  • Managing HMC and the creation of LPARS
  • Applying patches and upgrades when necessary.
  • Knowledge of PowerVM and PowerVC
  • Knowledge of NIM
  • Creation and deployment of LUNS, storage pools and SAN based replication.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years’ experience as an AIX systems and IBM storage administrator
  • Knowledge of AIX and LINUX operating systems, storage environments, file systems, and network protocols
  • Detailed knowledge of AIX principles, file editing, AIX commands, and file manipulation
  • Familiarity with AIX, LINUX, and LINUX shell scripting. (BASH)
  • Knowledge of GPG, scp, sftp and ssh
  • Knowledge of networking principles including routing, subnets, TCP, IP, VLANs, and UDP
  • Understanding of backup procedures and storage management
  • Knowledge IBM MQ, creation of system, administration and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of Tomcat on Aix
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Strong documentation skills
